Robert Bolyard

Robert Bolyard, specializing in the viola da gamba, is a choral conductor and multi-instrumentalist with a focus on keyboard and string instruments. Robert's journey with the gamba began while pursuing his Master's degree in Choral Conducting at the Yale School of Music. Since graduating, he has been an active presence in professional viola da gamba consorts and early music ensembles throughout the United States, including notable groups like the Tahoma Consort, New Trinity Baroque, and Alchymy Viols.

Robert has also made valuable contributions to the early music community by coaching at workshops such as Mountain Collegium and the VdGSA Conclave. Currently, he serves as the president of the board of the Indianapolis Early Music Festival.

In addition to his work in early music, Robert holds the positions of Music Director at St. Francis In-The-Fields Episcopal Church and Artistic Director of the chamber choir VOCE, based in Carmel, IN. He resides in downtown Indianapolis with his husband Andrew and their son Ian.
