Marcy Jean Brenner

Marcy Jean Brenner holds degrees in viola da gamba and harpsichord, boasting a rich career marked by performances, teaching, and recordings in both Europe and the USA. Upon relocating to Northeast Florida, she expanded her musical repertoire by joining Celtic Ring for Irish music and lending her voice to Jacksonville Harmony Chorus and the Sweet Adelines quartet Sapphire. Delving into hand drums, Marcy studied and performed with master percussionist Ken Anoff of Time to Drum. A founding member of RareSong, she immerses herself in early Spanish and English music in period costumes.

Marcy is also a founding member of Savannah Baroque and a recent addition to The Goliards, specializing in Medieval music in Savannah. In Atlanta, she contributes to Amethyst Ensemble, focusing on seventeenth and eighteenth-century music featuring recorder, countertenor, viol, and harpsichord continuo.

Upon her move to Charleston, SC in 2022, Marcy established The Spartina Consort—a group consisting of recorder, two viols, and harpsichord. This ensemble has showcased its musical prowess at events like Piccolo Spoleto, the North Charleston Arts Fest, and performances in various churches across Charleston, Beaufort, and Summerville. Marcy, who plays instruments crafted by Matthias Boelli and Thomas Mace, now calls Charleston, SC home.
